Poster development - billing block 2

I have created the billing block for my film poster, I decided to have in a diamond shape as I feel it works with the rest of the conventions on the poster. I used 'steel tongs' for the font and chose to make it a dark grey colour. It was quite easy to make the billing block once I knew how to do it however took some time to get all the text in the correct place.

poster development-billing block

In the development and design for my film poster I am making a billing block. Before creating this I first looked at already exhisting ones to get an idea of what they look like, the classic conventions and what style they are. I started to create it on Adobe Photoshop cc. I first started by finding an appropriate font for the billing block, I found 'steel tongs', this font is appropriate for the billing block as it is like the fonts I have researched on already existing film posters.

Poster development 2

Once I had created the title and actors names I then decided I wanted to change the position of the main image. I decided to bring it to the very top and leave a small gap at the top of the page for some more text such as the date the film premiers. I decided on moving the main image because I think visually it looks better.

I then added the text that I originally had on the other poster plan. I decided to have no text covering the main image as I wanted the text to be as clear as possible. I have also changed the font of the actors to 'kenzo' because it is a unique font and looks better.

When researching already existing film posters I have found that the majority have some text to tell the date in which the film all be released. In the small gap I have left at the top I decided to put 'in cinemas january 3' the text isn't very bold however stands out because it is quite large and at the top of the page.

poster development 1

Once I had edited the image I then put it against a light grey background. I chose to put the image in the centre of the page and leave space on the top and bottom of the page for extra neccessary text.
Once the image was in place I then added some text, I started by designing the title which is Pretty Hurts. I chose the pink colour because it links with some of the text colour on my magazine front cover and because it stands out against the monochrome tones on the page. I also added the text "A film by Grace Sutton" I chose to put it as the same colour but a smaller text so that the title is the largest text on the page.

I then added the main actors names below the main image. I have since changed the format of the the lettering which make the names easier to read and it looks better.

poster main image

This is the original image that I am using for my film poster. I chose to use this image as both of the characters look very serious and because of this they aren't giving much of the films plot away which I think is a good thing as it may entice the viewer to watch the film/film trailer. Both of the characters shown in the main image will also be featured with their names on the poster.

After deciding on the main image I then decided to edit it. I started by going on the program Adobe Photoshop CC. To make the models hairs look more volumised I went on Filter - Liquify - Forward warp tool, this tool allowed me to move the hair to make it look bigger with this tool I was also able to make the shadows on the face different sizes. I then wanted to change the image from colour to black and white. I decided to do this because again it adds to the drama aspect of the film and I think will contrast good with other colours I am planning on putting on the poster. To change the colour of the image I clicked on the imaged and added the adjustments by using the levels tool black and white tool and the curves tool, this created the right black and white effect that I want.

clothing research

Iv researched into the type of clothing I want to use in my film trailer. Iv chose to go for casual clothing that teenagers would wear as I want it to be as realistic as possible. The film LOL shows aspects of the type of clothing I want to use in my film trailer. For my film trailer I want the characters to wear casual clothing, more colourfull clothing will help the characters stand out.

magazine front cover developments

After designing the sell lines and masthead I then put them on a blank document. I have then designed the main article sell line and have made this alot bolder and larger than the other sell lines on the page. I have also made a button this makes the information on it stand out. At the very top of the page I have put the lettering 'Magazine of the year' again this will catch the readers attention when the magazine is on the shelf.

After editing the image I chose to put on the front cover I then inserted it on the document. I chose to have the main image to come in front of the masthead to show importance, the the sell lines in front of the main image. Since putting the main image on the page I have changed the lettering colours of the main article sell line because they didnt stand out when they were in front of the main image in their original colours.

I have changed the masthead and chose to use this on because I feel it stands out more being a film magazine. I have also changed the lettering at the very top of the page to 'voted film magazine of the year' because when it is on the shelf it will be more recognisable as a film magazine. I have also change to place I am putting the button, I chose to put overlapping the masthead. I have made the main article sell lines a lot larger to that they really stand out. Part of the main article sell line I have added a drop shadow for added emphasis and to make it eye catching.

first designs of Film magazine front cover

I have started to create my film magazine front cover. I first began by choosing a colour scheme, I chose the colours black, white, dark pink and possibly silver. I then began to design the masthead, I designed three different ones before deciding which one to choose. In all three of the mastheads I have created I have used the colours black and dark pink because these two colours contrast well against each other and make the masthead stand out on the page.

I havent yet chose which masthead I want to keep as I want to see what both of the mastheads look like of the final design of the magazine.

I then started to create the sell lines, I wanted them to stand out on the page and look unique. To achieve this I have made the font bold and put it in different sizes. Personally I think this makes it eye catching on the page. I have also put drop shadows on the lettering to make them stand out even more. I chose to use the colours white and dark pink to inkeep with the masthead but make it slightly different by using white.
